Specifically and most importantly my work is unique, made as one-offs or very small runs of similar items (such as my ’Silly Rabbit’, I will make 8-10 rabbits at a time although they all end up individual in style, colour and personaility). Each piece of work is researched, developed and designed by me. I do not worked from commercial patterns, books, magazines or kits although I do use these for inspiration or as a springboard on occasion.
Textile Artwork takes many forms. I have an insatiable love of fabrics, textures and colours. If I can find a way to feed that need I will. I am as happy to create my own fabrics with fabric dyeing, batik or indigo work as I am to use commercial or found, repurposed vintage fabrics when designing, developing and making Textile Artwork. Over the years I have attended many workshops and teaching sessions and spent numerous hours developing my own ideas as well as teaching quilting, embroidery and textile art workshops.
Therefore, any commissioned work, as well as my wall hangings and quilts, are utterly unique, personal and specific, so please bear this in mind when looking through my gallery. If there is anything you like I can create something similar, but not identical, and colours, lengths, patterns, styles etc are all negotiable and I always seek to accommodate the client’s preferences.
My work falls into and out of many categories. For example: traditional and modern patchwork quilts, fabric books, toys, art wall hangings, memory quilts, accessories (scarves, bags, brooches etc), batiked waistcoats, soft toys, sewing accessories, homewares and art quilts, fabric postcards…. and so the list can go on!
