Glass fusing is certainly in vogue and there are many pieces of work in galleries and shops. Successful glass working requires knowledge of the changing behaviour of glass (which is always in liquid state) when adjusting temperatures between 10 and 820oC.
Glass can be tack fused – where layers of glass appear proud and layered but fully stuck together: Full fused – where all layers of glass mould together into one whole, smooth mass: and then shaped by refiring the glass over or into moulds. To achieve these effects requires a good working knowledge.
My work reflects each of these disciplines and requires a good understanding, knowledge base and experience to produce good, solid pieces of artwork.
I aim to match the best process to the design and final piece to ensure each artwork is professionally finished and unique. I am always keen to recycle glass whether they be offcut waste bullseye, stained or system 96, window or hoticultural glass by preference. My inclusions are usually found items and recycled metals ie beer or coke cans.
The processes and kiln used ensure each piece is individually made and will, therefore, be unique. I do not mass produce items. It is not my style nor method of working.
Each glass artwork item is fully annealed to reduce the risk of shock stress within the glass and to give the glass the chance to naturally restrengthen itself.
I will always consider commissions and am happy to work with the client on choosing colourway, size and style of piece wherever possible. If there is anything you see on my website you’d prefer in a different size or colourway please contact me to discuss possibilities.
